Martine de Keyn was born in Belgium, the great-great-granddaughter of Jean de Keyn who founded the De Keyn Paint Factory in 1840. As a child, Martine grew up with the etiquette protocols that were the hallmark of European society.
Martine moved to Canada in 1990 where she established herself as an expert in the practical application of modern European dining etiquette. She is a highly skilled property investor and owns a variety of residential and commercial buildings. Martine owns a collection of one-of-a-kind and originals lithographs by famous European artists, many of whom were commissioned by the De Keyn family and truly capture the era in which they were created. A number of original lithographs from Martine’s private collection have been featured in Hollywood films and television shows such as Frasier, Friends, Days of our Lives and many more.

Well that was a most fun evening. Much more interesting than simply going out for a nice dinner.
Tonight’s event will lead to a fun discussion with my sister – particularly about the dessert spoon and fork!
She and I do it differently from each other. At least that is my recolection. So it will be fun to have that discussion. Also the hands in the lap verses visible. That is a new one for me. We grew up with hands in the lap being OK as well as wrists on the table edge – but no elbows please!!!!!
Its quite interesting all the variations. Also tonight Carla was saying that after the war there were lots of people that didn’t have full place settings and so got used to having their dessert right on the dinner plate. And I recalled that Clasina’s Mom used to do that.
I do find all this quite interesting. And I want to thank you both so much for organizing a terrific evening. Loved your demonstrations and the info before each course, and then time for everyone to share their learned ways which mostly reinforced your comments fortunately, but also brought a lot of laughter to the table.
